Introducing…the Majority Whips!

The DC Rollergirls are growing! Season 6 marks the debut of our newest team, the Majority Whips. You may recognize a few familiar faces on the team—it’s led by Scare Force One’s Lois Slain and the Cherry Blossom Bombshells’ Styx N Stones—but the rest are all new, a combination of skilled transfers (keep an eye out for Dual Hitizen, formerly of Pioneer Valley Roller Derby and one of the newest additions to the DC All-Stars) and eager rookies. Battling the league’s three established teams won’t be easy, but the Whips have been training hard since their formation in early summer, and they’re ready to lay down some discipline on the track this season. Their inaugural bout will pit them against two-time league champions the DC DemonCats.
Wondering how this season looks for DCRG’s other three home teams? Keep reading for our Season 6 preview!
Cherry Blossom Bombshells: Last season saw the Bombshells continuing to rebuild their team, and they closed out the regular season with another 0-4 record. But this season, the tide could turn. For the first time in two years, the Bombshells have one of the most established teams on the league, with their roster virtually unchanged from last season. (Plus, they’re welcoming back one of their most effective blockers, the hard-hitting Guantanamo Babe.) Under new leadership—jammer Lucky Penny has stepped up as captain—the Bombshells definitely have their eyes on a trip to the championship bout this season.

DC DemonCats: The ‘Cats put up a good fight last season after losing a few key veterans, but they fell short of defeating perennial rival Scare Force One. Season 6 finds the DemonCats down even more vets, as many of their strongest players (Camilla the Hun, ShREDica, Obitchuary) bid derby adieu at the end of last season. The ‘Cats still have a few weapons in their arsenal (including returning captain Ovary Action, the formidable Hooah! Girl, and last year’s rookie powerhouse Jersey Jill), and they’re working hard to bring a passel of new recruits into the fold in time to earn a record five trips in a row to the championship bout.

Scare Force One: With a deadly combination of tenacity and teamwork, Scare Force One dominated the league last season, keeping their winning streak going all the way to the championship bout, where they became the only team in league history to win the coveted Skate of the Union trophy three times. They’re looking for another perfect season this year, and they have all the pieces in place to pull it off, with their most fearsome blockers (Soledad, Velocityraptor, Chinese Cheker, Condoleezza Slice) and nimblest jammers (Marion Barrycuda, Lenore Gore) still around. But you can bet that Scare Force is the team everyone will be gunning to take down this year.
